Earthquake in Central Italy!!!

An earthquake hit Italy on April 06 2009 01:32:39 UTC. The earthquake was located at the region of Abruzzo,Central Italy. It might have been caused by the movement of Adriatic Sea microplate beneath the country's east coast which contributed the happening of that disastrous earthquake. The magnitude of that earthquake is 6.3 (MMS).
The eartquake caused quite alot of damage. The massive quake left 287 people killed, 1,000 injured, 40,000 homeless and 10,000 buildings damaged or destroyed in the L'Aquila area. It also damaged the apse of the Basilica of Saint Bernadino of Siena, L'Aquila's largest Renaissance church, and also caused its campanile to collapsed.

The government also helped by seting up homeless camps for those that had lost their home due to the earthquake. They also refused help from foreign countries which they could have accepted as they claimed that they had sufficient resources to deal with the crisis. Most of them found tented camps to temporary live in some even in hotels that are on the coast.

Another damged building- a Government Office>

Although the billionare prime minister even offered to allow some of the people to stay at his house, he created a disagreement through a simple interview. He said "The homeless victims should consider themselves to be on a "camping weekend" - "They have everything they need, they have medical care, hot food... Of course, their current lodgings are a bit temporary. But they should see it like a weekend of camping."

I think the government could have build the buildings with a more sturdy structure that can prevent less injuries and death. They could also have build those buildings with concrete although it may be more expensive compared to sand which they are using. It could have prevented so much deaths and injuries and also not preventing the amount of money needed later to reconstruct the buildings to be less.
